Welcome to Millson's Wood Burning Line of Products

Before man figured out how to control fire for his own use some 1.6 million years ago, we can only image that he was very cold. For all of history, fire has been an essential part of human survival and even today despite all our technology, we're still burnin'! Whether it's a co-generation plant producing electricity or a wood stove warming on a cold winter's night, the burning of renewable wood fiber makes sense.

We believe that one way to make a more productive and sustainable forest is by burning wood. Sounds crazy right? While before you think we are 'blowing smoke' we aren't proposing cutting down more trees, we simply want to use the wood fiber that is harvested more efficiently. Let us tell you more about our wood burning products, why they work for us and how they can work for you.

Our Story: Our unlikely journey into firewood production started thirty some years ago, when a couple of foresters started growing tree seedlings for forest regeneration. Over the years, as one thing led to another, we found ourselves in the harvest site planting the seedlings we nurtured in the greenhouse. Then to give our trees the greatest chance of survival, we started carrying out site preparation on the ground where the trees were to be planted to create the most ideal growing conditions possible. This led us to realize that how the trees were being harvested affected the success of our regeneration efforts. So we bought an axe so to speak, and started harvesting trees ourselves. That brought us face to face with a problem that has plagued logging operations for years. Despite everyone's best efforts there are literally tons of waste fiber left on the sites after logging and that fiber gets in the way of regeneration efforts! A common way to deal with the problem is to pile this slash and then set it one fire. While this would be great if you happened on it and had a really big marshmallow to roast, it is not most productive use of the wood fiber. The logging operations also brought to our attention another issue that literally came crashing down on us. We simply don't use all of the species that grow in the areas we harvest. One of these species is white birch, which aside from being a fine canoe building material, is arguably the prettiest firewood you'll ever find.

Our seedlings haven't been the only thing growing, we're now 5 foresters and a couple of forest technicians and while we are still growing trees, we have also worked out a way to utilize fiber that would otherwise be wasted. That is why providing these wood products for you, works for us, so please, give it a light!

Our products fall into two lines:
