White pine (Pinus strobus)

Seedlings are in 6" plastic pots. They range in height from about 30cm to 40cm and will continue to grow during the summer. The root system is well developed and the stems are strong.

Cones: large and cylindrical, up to 20 centimetres long

Description: reaches a height of 25-35 metres. Its soft, flexible, blue- green needles remain on the tree for 2-3 years, then turn brown and fall in autumn. Cones are large and cylindrical, up to 20 centimetres long, and hang singly or in groups from the upper branches. After two summers of ripening they open in early autumn to release seed, and then fall.

The White pine was declared the arboreal emblem (the official tree) of Ontario in 1984.
